The Munro Family Name originates from the River Roe which is located in Northern Ireland that has a "reddish tint" from the amount of iron in the river. Multiple Munro's carry the name "Harvey" which stands for Iron & Strength which blood carries iron, so this has excellent symbolism for such a distinguished name. Clan Munro which was established circa the 12th century by Donald Munro, who was the founder of this clan, had enemies and allies in the "clan territorial" Scotland hundreds of years ago. Furthermore, during a battle Clan Munro fought so with such ferocity that they earned the nickname as "The Invincibles". Any person who is blood or not who carries the name Munro, Monro, Munroe, or Monroe should take pride in being connected to this as these ancestors stood their ground courageously so you could be here today! The different spellings of Munro are still connected by blood to the original spelling of the name Munro as just brought up in the previous sentence.

Furthermore, in Scotland a Munro is defined as a mountain with heights over 3000 feet!In addition, there are over 200 Munro Mountains in Scotland so you might want to pack a couple extra pairs of hiking boots!  As you can see from this map circa the 1500's The Munro's had a decent chunk of Scotland as territory as well as a The Munro Castle, which is still in Scotland today, operational and welcomes visitors.

James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, shares blood with quite a few "cousins" or distant relatives including a special group of Munro's that live in Southeast Texas as proven by DNA testing. Mr. Monroe fought in the American Revolutionary War. He is known as a founding father of this country and helped unify a volatile land that was somewhat in turmoil or divided from 1817 to 1825. His 8-year presidency was known as "The Era of Good Feelings". Furthermore, Monrovia, the capital of Liberia in Western Africa, followed and used the name because he helped create homes for newly freed slaves as he did many good things for people. He was a warrior, man of honor, leader and possessed the strength and nobility that many people would envy or would like to have.

During the early 1920's, a gentleman known as William Harvey Munro, the 18th generation cousin of Donald Munro, Clan Munros Founder, won The Irish Sweepstakes here in The USA which is equivalent to winning a smaller "lottery" prize in today's terms. Instead of buying drugs, booze, boats and cars, he invested in a dry cleaner because he had dry cleaning experience from previous employment and grew the business. William was nicknamed "Josh" because he used to like joking with people in a fun-loving way. He worked hard and wore bow ties frequently as he was what his son, Dick Munro, would refer to as "keen". In addition, Josh was an outdoorsman and had several children including "Poppy Dick" Munro. Below is a picture where you can see the Munro name on the delivery vehicle to the far left and the sign on the top right which has been professionally restored and is a discussion piece/staple in the office!

Dick grew up from humble beginnings as his father had multiple mouths to feed and would frequently call his grandchildren either Peckerwood (not the prison gang) and Sweet Pea. Dick fought bravely in WWII and was one of the nicest and most humble beings you could ever cross paths with. He would often use "aliases" when making reservations at restaurants so "people wouldn't realize he was there in case somebody was looking for that peckerwood". In addition, he would slip the host or hostess cash on the side to get a table quicker. "Poppy Dick" liked working with his hands more than working on the business as he was an extremely talented woodworker and had "more tools than you can shake a stick at" where his shop was up at the family Lakehouse on Fern Lake in Marshall, Texas. Poppy Dick made a good mistake when getting married to Katy when he was just a young peckerwood. Katy loved gardening and traveled the world birdwatching and wine tasting as those were a couple of her passions. If you wouldn't go to sleep fast, she could make some quick contact with her fly swatter. The couple had three children of which a single child and grandchild is still involved in the company.  She was a special lady and her love for birds, nature and life was contagious. They were undoubtedly a great match and complemented each other very well. Below is a picture of Poppy Dick and Katy in their favorite watering hole the aforementioned, Fern Lake, where the Munro's have been going for 5 generations along with distant cousins and loving friends where many good memories and alcohol fueled decisions may or may not have happened!
